Sunday Salon # 4 - special

The Sunday Salon.com

For some odd reason, a song by the Pretenders has been running through my head in the middle of the night. I've woken up having the chorus from the song "brass in pocket" running through my head.
'CAUSE I GONNA MAKE YOU SEE
THERE'S NOBODY ELSE HERE
NO ONE LIKE ME
I'M SPECIAL, SO SPECIAL
I GOTTA HAVE SOME OF YOUR ATTENTION
GIVE IT TO ME
'CAUSE I GONNA MAKE YOU SEE
THERE'S NOBODY ELSE HERE
NO ONE LIKE ME
I'M SPECIAL, SO SPECIAL
I GOTTA HAVE SOME OF YOUR ATTENTION
GIVE IT TO ME!

So - some hidden meaning or just one of those songs that get stuck in your head. I'm just thankful It isn't the teletubbies singing 'head, shoulders, knees and toes'. I got that one stuck in my head a few months back and just about drove me crazy.

I received my first "Bookmarks" magazine this week...the jan/feb issue. It is chock full of interesting information and reviews. It will take a while to read the whole thing. I keep stopping and looking up books on the internet and of course, adding them to my wishlist.

I picked up two newbies this week: a thriller, The Bible of Clay by Julia Navarro and suspense novel Wicked Game by Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush. Do you ever had books just jump out at you when you are perusing the shelves in the store. These two did and look forward to reading them soon.

I read three books and reviewed two so far this week: Kiss by Ted Dekker - A must read if you like suspense. Agatha Christie's Spider's Web - What can you say about Agatha - just a fun read. Finished Destiny Kills (book 1 of the myth and magic series) by Keri Arthur and will be reviewing it soon. First time author read and absolutely loved it! It is a paranormal romance and the writing captures you from the very beginning.

For the Winter Reading Challenge - I've completed 17 out of 25 books. Click here to find links to participants reviews and see what everyone has been reading.

Found several interesting bookish things going on in webland

At Kill Zone, author John Ramsey Miller discusses how to 'fish' for new readers. He asks how authors are supposed to connect with readers and capture their attention. Very well done and worth taking the time to read. Maybe add your two cents worth like I did. Or discover an author or two you didn't know about and add them to your TBR pile.

Booking through Thursday had a great discussion regarding electronics versus paper books.

Don't forget about Semicolon's Saturday Review of Books - There are some great reviews and more books to add to your wish lists.

Go check out Beth's weekly link round up at Beth Fish reads. She has some great links and I learned a few new things yesterday.

My father was in a Las Vegas Borders store the other day when he came across B. Sandy doing a book signing for his book The Link: the third Millenium
Evidently he was on his 2nd publishing run of the book because the first had sold out. He purchased the book and had Mr. Sandy dedicate it to me and planned on sending it to me. However, my father who usually doesn't read fiction, went home and read the first few pages. Now, he and mom are hooked and it looks like I won't be getting it for a while. Click on this link to read the first thirty pages and you just might be hooked as well.
This is Super Bowl Sunday? Oh my, I guess my head has been under a rock. I don't even know who is playing. What is even more ridiculous is when I went on the Tampa Bay Super Bowl website the names of the teams are nowhere to be found. Really!!! Guess I should go turn on the tv and find out.

Happy Reading!

  4. I love it when books just jump off the shelf at me. I've found so many new authors and titles that really resonate with what I'm thinking and feeling at that moment.

I'm reading a new to me author right now. Geoffrey Gluckman's spy thriller Deadly Exchange chock full of action, romance, conspiracy, technology and I'm really loving it so far.
