Book Review - Violet Dawn

VIOLET DAWN

BY

BRANDILYN COLLINS

First time read by this author. She is a budding Ted Dekker, me thinks. I don't know if she will like that analogy or not, but that was my first thought. Not creepy, scary, but a well drawn suspense story with rich, three dimensional characters. Violet Dawn is a christian suspense novel and is a chew on your fingernails, why is she doing that?, oh my, what is she thinking? book. From the first page, you are drawn into Paige William's story and riveted.

From the back cover

"Something sinuous brushed against Paige's knee. She jerked her leg away. What was that? She rose to a sitting position, groped around with her left hand. Fine wisps wound themselves around her fingers. Hair? She yanked backward, but the tendrils clung. Something solid bumped her wrist. Paige gasped. With one frantic motion she shook her arm, grabbed the side of the hot tube, and heaved herself out."

Paige Williams slips into her hot tub in the blackness of night--and finds herself face to face with death. Alone, terrified, fleeing a dark past, Paige must make a unthinkable choice. In Violet Dawn, hurtling events and richly drawn characters collide in a breathless story of murder, the need to belong, and faith's first glimmer. One woman's secrets unleash an entire town's pursuit, and the truth proves as elusive as the killer in their midst."
There is much I could say about the story, but I would not want to give away any spoilers. Collins blends the present and past together in such a way that is very intriguing. The story is not only about Paige Williams. It is also about the town folks of Kanner Lake. The characters in the story are very three dimensional and capture your emotions.

Also in my TBR pile is "Brink of Death" book 1 of another one of her series Hidden Faith. I probably should finish one series before I start another, but oh well. Violet Dawn will definitely rate a second read.

Big thumbs up and
I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the Kanner Lake Series and they have all gone on to my wishlist for later.
