Booking Through Thursday - best book didn't like.

Today’s Booking Through Thursday post asks:

What, in your opinion, is the best book that you haven’t liked? Mind you, I don’t mean your most-hated book–oh, no. I mean the most accomplished, skilled, well-written, impressive book that you just simply didn’t like.
Like, for movies–I can acknowledge that Citizen Kane is a tour de force and is all sorts of wonderful, cinematically speaking, but . . . I just don’t like it. I find it impressive and quite an accomplishment, but it’s not my cup of tea.
So . . . what book (or books) is your Citizen Kane?

There has been a few over the past year. One is The Children of Hurin by J.R.R. Tolkein. I started it, twice and could not get past the first two chapters. It has been set on the shelf waiting for me to be in the proper mindset to read it.

I was extremely dissappointed in Terri Blackstock's final book in the restoration series "Dawn's Light" The final story fell flat in bringing it to a conclusion and a major character was killed off.

The best, most experienced writers don't always produce the best books. Some stories will fall flat and just leave you cold. You can't please 100% of the people 100% of the time. Besides, there may be a story I absolutely love that the next person will absolutely hate. It all in the eyes of the beholder, err.... reader.

Happy Reading!

  1. I didn't like Terri Blackstock's first in that series--so depressing. I have three other titles for my answer. Come check it out. Happy BTT.

  4. Tolkien never did it for me. I love his imagination and his creativity - but I think I'm more in awe of that and they gushing and admiration than his actual work. I was dragged through The Hobbit and I only read Fellowship because of the movie.
