Book Review - Dark Pursuit

Dark Pursuit

By

Brandilyn Collins

I have been remiss in bringing this up. I was 1 of 100 people who won an advance copy of Dark Pursuit from Bookreporters.com. I received the book a couple weeks ago. I had already received a copy from Zondervan back in October and reviewed it October 18th. So, no you are not hallucinating. this is a redux of that review.

Back Cover Excerpt: "Novelist Darell Brooke lived for his title as King of Suspense--until an auto accident left him unable to concentrate. Two years later, reclusive and bitter, he wants one thing: to plot a new novel and regain his reputation. Kaitlan Sering, his twenty-two-year-old granddaughter, once lived for drugs. After she stole from Darell, he cut her off. Now she's rebuilding her life. But in Kaitlan's town two women have been murdered, and she is about to discover a third. She's even more shocked to realize the culprit is her boyfriend, Craig, the police chief's son. Desparate, Kaitlan appeals to her estranged grandfather. For over forty years, Darell Brooke has lived suspense. Surely he'll devise a plan to trap the cunning Craig. But can Darell's muddled mind do it? And--if he tries--with what motivation? For Kaitlan's plight may be the stunning answer to the elusive plot he seeks."

Dark Pursuit is a riveting entertaining read, full of suspense and action. Brandilyn Collins takes you into the minds of not only Kaitlan and Darell, but also into the demented mind of the killer. The characters are well crafted and three dimensional and you just feel Darell's frustration and experience Kaitlan's fear.

Once I started reading the story, I couldn't put it down. I was totally surprised as the story reached the climax, that I exclaimed out loud "What! Who?" Something I don't normally do, because I usually have already got it all figured out who did it by the middle of the story. I won't give it away, but it got my husband's attention.

I have to give Dark Pursuit 5 Stars because it totally threw me for a loop. Well Done!

How about an early Christmas present? Since I now have two copies of the Advance Reader Copy of Dark Pursuit, I have decided to give one away in a book contest. I've been considering doing a book contest thing for quite a while now. I have so many of them taking up space on the shelves. If this sounds like a book you would like, leave me a comment with your email. If more than one person wants it, I'll conduct a drawing on Wednesday and announce who is the winner. The give away is limited to those residing in the U.S. If all goes well, I'll be doing more give aways and contests during 2009.
