Weekly Report

We didn’t accomplish much of our lesson plan this week as James came down with Strep Throat. We completed Monday lessons and the rest of the week was coping with long nights and throwing up. James is feeling much better today. Once he started the antibiotics, he stopped throwing up, but has been quite tired. He has kept down milk and soup so far. The lessons planned for the rest of the week will transfer over to next week.

For devotions, we have been studying Fruits of the spirit; this week is goodness. In Lord, teach me to pray for kids, we are on week 2, day 2 learning more about observation and the 5 w’s – who, what, why, where, when, and How. Monday we were analyzing Isaiah 36 which was a little above James head, but he listened and answered all the questions.

We have analyzed the Lord’s Prayer and what each line means:

Our Father, who are in heaven, hallowed by thy name – worship
Thy Kingdom come – allegiance
Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven – submission
Give us this day our daily bread – petition
And Forgive us our sins – confession
As we forgive those who sin against us – forgiveness
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil – deliverance
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory forever, Amen. – worship.

I thought this was very cool and gave a whole new outlook and understanding of the Lord’s prayer.

We also learned nine descriptions of God’s special names, their meanings and the Hebrew version:

God is Creator ( Elohim)
God Most High (El Elyon)
God our Righteousness (Jehovah Tsidkenu)
Provider ( Jehovah Jireh)
Shepherd (Jehovah Raah)
Peace (Jehovah Shalom)
Our Banner ( Jehovah Nissi)
Healer ( Jehovah Rapha)
God is There ( Jehovah Shammah)

We are currently trying to memorize them. I am learning so much while James and I go through this book and discovering the most amazing things.

The rest of the week, between bouts of illness, James played Jumpstart World 2nd grade and is having fun learning. We read “sea of tranquility” by Mark Haddon, “Magic School Bus at the waterworks” and “MSB lost in the solar system. Watched “Project Mercury” and some Go Diego Do and Veggie Tale DVDs. We will take it easy the rest of the weekend, while I study.

The questions to answer this week in my Science and Religion class are

1) Do evolutionary biologists claim that Darwinism, as currently defined in the science textbooks, provides a final, perfect, and complete theory about the evolution of the species and then, defend my answer.

2) According to Isaac Newton, what purpose does God have in the (mechanistic) universe? Do you agree?

3) Do you believe that Creationism, as presented in the Book of Genesis of the Old Testament, should be taught in public high school biology class along with Darwinism? Why or why not?

Heavy! Off to study and think and write and think and write and think and …………….

  1. The Lord, Teach Me to Pray study sounds awesome! When dd finishes her R&S study, I think we will have to get that one for second semester.

Glad your son is feeling better!
