BBAW Wednesday Giveaway - The Divorce Party

The Divorce Party

By

Laura Dave

Back cover: "Gwyn Huntington knows how to throw a party. And Hunt Hall, her postcard perfect Victorian home in Montauk, is no stranger to celebrations. But on the morning of her thirty-fifth wedding anniversary, she's putting finishing touches on the last party she'll host there: A party to celebrate her divorce.

Just over one hundred miles away, Gwyn's future daughter in law, Maggie Mackenzie, sits on the floor of her Brooklyn apartment attempting to organize her new life. She's in love with a wonderful man, and today she is meeting his family for the first time.

The Divorce Party takes us into the lives of these two women at opposite ends of marriage. For all the differences between them -- distance, privilege, age-- Gwyn and Maggie have one thing in common. Each has found herself at the crossroads, facing the same question: How hard should you work to stay with the person you love?"

Good question: How hard should you work to stay with the person you love?

  3. Communication, communication is the key. There are many times you also need to use the strategy of "radical acceptance". Marriage is one of the hardest relationships to maintain and it takes much patience to keep it going strong.

  4. I find that one must always be present in a relationship. Be aware of your needs and your partner's needs. Keep talking, and keep playing! Make sure you still have fun together!

  8. To stay with the person you love, it takes patience, along with hard work. The things that initially draw you to someone can sometimes acutally be annoying little habits, but without them, my hubby wouldn't be my hubby, you know?
Thanks for the chance to win The Divorce Party.

  9. You should work VERY hard. Don't sweat the small stuff and remember the grass is NOT greener on the other side. If you love someone be patient, understanding and always listen to their point of view!

  10. I think you should work as hard as you possibly can to stay with the person you love and then a little harder. Love, commitment, marriage, it's hard work - totally worthwhile if you truly love the person and they love you - but it's hard. Communication with the person you love is key and patience, a willingness not tohave to always be right or in control, knowledge and understanding that he/she will irritate you and tick you off sometimes and a willingness and desire to put him/her first before yourself.

    Thank you for this giveaway!

  11. Living with someone you love in a forever relationship is work and a balancing act where you both always have to be open to adjustments and compromise. So it's not how hard you should work but maybe are you willing to work?

  17. You need to do everything in your power to work out the problems. After that you work even harder. If I was fighting for my marriage (of 16 years) I would never give up fighting for my marriage.

  18. How hard should you work to stay with the person you love?

Is it a healthy love? I mean if you both love each other and are kind and respectful to each other, you work your a$$ off to stay together. If the love is lopsided? It really depends....

  21. I would work tirelessly, as long as the other person worked with me. In my last marriage, I was the only one working to keep the marriage together. That's impossible.
