Two Second Rants

Economic Outpatient Care

Have you ever read "The Millionaire Next Door". It is an excellent book and chapter 5 is all about Economic Outpatient Care. What is Economic Outpatient Care you ask?

It is when Mom and Dad provide economic support to their grown children who for what ever reason are living beyond their means. This is generally an occurrence within the affluent community. Mom and Dad subsidize the kiddies who live above and beyond their means. I also apply this to adult children who have come to expect or take advantage of their parents and take, take, take without giving back.

You have the perfect example currently in the news - the octuplet mom. She is single and currently has 14 children, all under the age of 7 and all by invitro fertilization. She has no visible means of support. She relies on her parents, who don't approve of her having 8 more children, but continue to support her, even though it has caused a significant hardship on them. She refuses to marry the biological father - she just wanted children. According to her 'she wanted lots of kids because she grew up an only child in a dysfunctional household.' Isn't she still living in this dysfunctional household in which her children will also be brought up in a dysfuncational household?

Now a website has been establish for her in which you can contribute money and help to support her and her children. The ultimate in Economic Outpatient Care - She has abdicated the fiscal responsibilty of care for herself and her 14 children to anyone other than herself.

Is this woman ever going to take responsibility for her actions, her life or her children if everyone in her life and anyone who feels sorry for her and the media and government continues to provide economic support? Doubtful.

Talk about dysfunctional.

  1. I don't think she should have been allowed to have that second set of babies. I'm not sure how, but it's just selfish for her to expect everyone else to take care of those kids. I've been seeing this everywhere and it just makes me feel sick that people are so greedy and that there's no way these children are going to have a good life or learn the proper lessons growing up given the example of their own mother.
