New Beginnings Wednesday - sticking to your resolutions

MizB always comes up with the most interesting challenges, memes and ideas, whether they are reading,  writing or life.   Now she has come up with New Beginnings Wednesday.  Every year we make resolutions and usually by the middle of the year they are forgotten.  I discovered that blogging about ideas and decisions ends up giving me accountability.....usually.  So, I'm going to bite the bullet, put my resolutions out there in writing for all to see and stick to them.   Notice I didn't say "try".    Ever since we started watching star wars with James, Yoda's mantra of "do or do not, there is no try" has stuck in my head.  It's actually quite effective.   Either I'm going to do it or I'm not.  For some odd reason I'm suddenly reminded of Helen Reddy's song, I Am Woman.

How New Beginnings will work:

First — post your list of New Years’ Resolutions.

Second — every week, on Wednesday, write a new post about how you’re doing with each of your goals … you’ll have to list them, again, each week, as people won’t remember what you’re working towards, otherwise. Be brief in your updates, as there may be several blogs to visit!

Third — after you’ve written your update, come back to Should Be Reading, and share your link so that we –the other New Beginnings participants– can stop by your blog and encourage you!

My 2010 Resolutions:

1.  Exercise:  the plan is to walk at least one mile a day for 5 days a week on the treadmill or walking around the neighborhood.  To help with that signed up for Trish's 100 Mile Fitness challenge

2.  Eating Smarter:  The plan is simply to eat smarter.  I have totally given up Pepsis, chips and anything with sodium nitrate in it.   Last week, cheated a bit and had a bologna sandwich, then later some chips.  Gave me heartburn.  Even drinking Canada Dry didn't make me feel too great. So giving up all sodas.  So paying more attention to the foods I eat and how they affect me.

3. Writing:  This is going to be my year of Writing Deliberately so plan to write at least 500 words a day.  Writing Deliberately will be taking the place of Work In Progress Wednesday since Kate is busy with a new little project of her own.  Posts will be on Friday.

4. Internet: Try to manage my online time more effectively with specific days to post for my blogs and limit my online blogging browsing time.

Come join MizB's New Beginnings Wednesdays and we'll help you stick to your resolutions.

  3. My new year's resolutions have been narrowed down to one word. "Action." Last year I had a word for the year and I was able to remember it all year. It was the first time I was ever able to make the resolution go through the year. I'm thinking my brain can only retain one thought amongst all the other things going on.

Great, great goals and I love that one becomes accountable for those goals.

    I'll be rooting for you.
