The Sunday Salon # 8 - It's all Nora Robert's Fault

The Sunday Salon.com

Yes, It is all Nora's fault because her J.D. Robb Promises in Death was released on the 24th. I have managed to resist temptation and not buy any books from Amazon since January 10th. Also, I hadn't been into Book Lovers for about a month. I have been reading only the books on my TBR pile and bought one or two, maybe three books from Bel Air when I went food shopping. I had promised myself I'd whittle down the stack before buying more.

I ordered Promises on the 24th and how could I limit myself to one book when I had all those wonderful books on my wish list calling to me. Of course, I had to get Eighth Shepherd, because it was next in the A.D. Series. I always order $50 worth of books when ever I order anything from Amazon. Why? I just do - so there were three books that were yelling a little louder than the rest. Pick me - Pick me. So I did: House of Dark Shadows by Robert Liparulo, Homocide in Hardcover: A bibliophile mystery by Kate Carlisle and The Ghost and Mrs. McClure: haunted bookshop mystery by Alice Kimberly (aka Cleo Coyle).

For some reason this prompted a visit to the used bookstore which I had been trying to stay out of. I guess I just needed that hands on, browsing, smell and feel the books experience. So during my dinner break, walked down and found: The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie (her first book),and B is for Burglar by Sue Grafton and Thread of Fear by Laura Griffin (her third book) . I finally succombed to temptation and purchased my first James Patterson appropriately titled 1st to Die. I finally picked up books by two more authors whose blogs I read: Side by Side and Inside Out by John Ramsey Miller and 14 by J.T. Ellison. So all because of Promises in Death, I ended up with 11 more books. I'm not complaining.

It's okay - Callapidder Days Spring Reading Challenge will be coming up on March 20th But before that, Daylight Savings Time begins on March 8th and we get to set the clocks ahead one hour. You know how you have a conversation in passing, an oh by the way, and go about your day. I had one of those conversations with Father a few days ago about changing the clocks and how it will be nice to sleep later. Inconsequential right! Well, right after that conversation, my kittens decided that I should continue getting up at 6:30, so they have been practicing waking me up at 5:30.

I just finished reading Promises In Death and thoroughly enjoyed it. I was slightly worried because the last story, Salvation In Death just wasn't as good as I expected it to be. I pleased to say this one hit the mark and all the right notes. I'll be reviewing it soon along with The Shape of Mercy by Susan Meisnner and Rebecca York's Crimson Moon.

There are 20 days left to Winter and My Winter Reading Challenge and there are some great books being reviewed by the participants here. Please check them out and you may just find a few new books to add to your wish list.

I've been trying to limit my time online and am taking two internet free days during the week for lent. Tuesdays and Fridays. I did wonderful on Friday and didn't even turn on my laptop. I ended up sitting down and writing, yes writing, several pages for my WIP and enjoyed it, a lot. I spent most of this morning, reading back over the story and refreshing my memory, writing some notes, typing up what I had written. Then I went online to catch up and got sucked into the black hole.... I forgot I was limiting myself to two hours a day for the rest of the week. Oops!

Today, I'll be working on my Art History class, particating in the B&N first look discussion about Sag Harbor and reading more of Thomas Merton's Seven Storey Mountain. And trying to avoid getting lost forever in the blogosphere - Just an hour or so... maybe, kinda, sorta... Well.

  1. LOL! I love the In Death series but I haven't gotten that far yet. Blaming Nora Roberts sounds like a good idea though for why you went on a book binge :) Enjoy!

  6. Thanks for reading my Weekly Review on my blog last week! Turning off the computer is a difficult challenge, it sucks up so much time! I'm always more productive when I do, though. I read your Weekly Review and laughed about the Mario Galaxy game. That's great he's turned it into an educational adventure! My kids have been into the Monkey Ball Banana Blitz wii game.

  7. Glad that you like Promises In Death. I just finished Salvation In Death and like you, it was not my favorite. What I do like is that Eve and Roake tell each other what they are thinking and feeling. I never have to yell at them to just tell it already!!!
