Happy New Year

Deb at Booking through Thursday asks: So … any Reading Resolutions? Say, specific books you plan to read? A plan to read more ____? Anything at all? Name me at least ONE thing you’re looking forward to reading this year!

My reading Resolutions:

1) Be a more well rounded reader. Meaning I will read more classics and a wider variety of genres. I seem to go on binges and read only one genre for a while. Last year the majority of books read were romances. I want to expand my repertoire so have chosen a variety of books. Thanks to all the book bloggers and myriad challenges out in internet land I have discovered some interesting books that I wouldn't normally read.

2) I am also going to try and finish what I have on the shelves before buying new books. I've ordered the books I decided to read for Dewey's Reads and the Martel Harper Challenge and the rest I already have. Now, I am going to try my hardest not to buy anymore until I finish what I have. We have so many classical and good books we inherited from Father's mom, and they are gathering dust on the shelves. I'm going to go through them and add them to my books to read list. They should keep me busy for a while. Then I will move on to acquiring new books published for the 2009 pub challenge.

3) I am going to try to slow down the pace at which I read. My goal is 100 books and I know will managed that easily. However, I will take my time to savor and enjoy, absorb and think about the books.

4) What am I looking forward to reading? All my books really but War and Peace comes to mind first. Yes, really. Father bought it for me for Christmas and I will read it. I'm just about to sink my teeth into Wicked this weekend and will let you know what I think of it.

Happy Reading!

  4. I'm so jealous of people who can read quickly enough to take part in the challenges.

BTW: Wicked is one of my all-time favorite books! For me, it was very emotionally exhausting and I was able to get through it pretty quickly thanks to 2weeks of jury duty and never being called. I miss those days...

  5. Happy new year to you. I do the same thing...binge on authors I find and fall in love with. I have the opposite problem of reading too slow. Maybe we can switch:) I love Tolstoy. Have you read his short story Man and Master? Gets me every time. Happy reading in 2009.
