Fall Reading Challenge

Fall Reading Challenge Wrap up

Fall ends as of today, December 20th and so is the Fall reading Challenge hosted by Callapidder Days.

Katrina wants to know:

  • Did you finish reading all the books on your fall reading list? If not, why not?

I finished all the books except for one. I tried to like it, but just couldn't get into it. It was a first time author read and don't know if it was the writing, the story line or just the character herself that turned me off.
  • Did you stick to your original goals or did you change your list as you went along?
I actually stuck to my original goals this time. Last year I kept adding books after reading other's reviews and didn't finish everything. I was determined this time and all those delicious books discovered are on my Amazon wish list. Would probably make good Christmas presents. (nudge nudge - wink wink)
  • What was your favorite book that you read this fall? Least favorite? Why?
If I really had to designate one as a favorite, it would be Violet Dawn by Brandilyn Collins. Collins was a new author read and I thoroughly enjoyed her writing style and the story. Her characters really come to life and the story gave me the chills.

My least favorite would have to be Sinner by Ted Dekker. He is one of my all time favorite authors and the conclusion to project showdown dissapointed me. The story didn't have that punch that gives me spine tingling chills like most of his stories do. It won't stop me from reading his books though. He is a very talented author.
  • Did you discover a new author or genre this fall? Did you love them? Not love them?
I discovered Christian author Brandilyn Collins and totally fell in love with her writing. Also Mariah Stewart who wrote the Dead Series. She's a keeper as well. I discovered paranormal romances and decided I really like them. They are different and mind boggling, but entertaining.

  • What was your favorite thing about the Fall Into Reading challenge?
My favorite thing was being able to check out what everyone else was reading and what they thought about the books. I discovered quite a few new blogs to enjoy, books I want to read and books I have no desire to read.
  • Would you like to participate in another challenge here this spring?
I would definitely participate in another challenge come spring. There are so many books out there and I have to pace myself. The challenges give me an opportunity to think about what I want to read and also exposes me to so many different books I wouldn't even consider on my own.

Below is a list of the books with links to my reviews. Most were very good to outstanding with a couple that were just mediocre.

All the Queens Men by Linda Howard Romantic Suspense

Beverly Hills Dead by Stuart Woods 1940's mystery during the blacklisting era

Brink of Death by Brandilyn Collins Christian suspense

Danger in the Shadows by Dee Henderson Christian Suspense

Foundation by Mercedes Lackey Fantasy and new novel in Valdemar series

House of Wolves by Matt Bronlewee Christian suspense

Isle of Fire by Wayne Thomas Batson Christian young adult book about young pirate battling evil.

Pagan Stone by Nora Roberts Paranormal Romance

Seventh Day by Bodie Thoene Christian writer - fictional story about Jesus and his followers.

Shadow and Silk by Ann Maxwell Romantic suspense story written by Elizabeth Lowell under another pen name.

  1. Good wrap-up. I looked at your list, and even though we read many of the same authors, we read different titles. Here's mine.

  10. Congratulations on completing the challenge.

This was the first time I read Pride & Prejudice, and in fact any of Jane Austen's works. It has been a Jane Austen year. You will enjoy McCall's works. They are an easy read, and a nice break when you have been reading heavier works (Jane Austen falls under that category for me.)
